The BackPack Program
HACAP partners with elementary schools in Easter Central Iowa to provide qualifying students nutritious food during the school year.  Horn and Borlaug's PTOs, along with Christ the King Lutheran Church, add fresh fruit and carrots before the bags are distributed to students at the end of the school week.  Sign-up if you would like to contribute.  More information about items needed and when and where to drop-off are available in the sign-up.

School Carnival - Saturday, March 7th from 3:00-6:30
ALL HORN STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN 10 FREE CARNIVAL TICKETS!  Tickets can be used to play games, enter raffles, and purchase food.  Travel throughout the school playing games and earning star tickets.  Star tickets can be used to purchase Carnival prizes in the library.  Stop by the lunch room to visit the Silent Auction, Raffles and Cafe.  This year's cafe will be serving dinner!  Pre-order carnival tickets by returning your ticket order form, found in your Carnival packet, by March 3rd.  Tickets will also be available to purchase on the day of the Carnival.  

 Families are invited to help run a game!  Sign-ups are organized by grade level: Kindergarten     1st Grade     2nd Grade     3rd Grade     4th Grade     5th Grade     6th Grade

Volunteers are also needed to set-up & clean-up games, work in the prize room, and serve food in the Hornet Cafe.  Email or text Laura Lbroffitt@yahoo.com / 319-541-8862

Hornet Cafe and Family Meal

 Cake Decorating Contest
This year's cake decorating theme is CELEBRATE - HORN IS 50!  All talent levels are encouraged to participate.  Donated cakes will be auctioned or raffled during the Carnival.  The winners of the decorating contest will receive a pack of carnival tickets.  You do not need to participate in the theme to donate.  All cakes are welcome!  Sign-up to donate a cake for the Silent Auction!  

 Donations Needed - drop off in school office by Friday, March 6th
  • If your family or your place of work would like to put together a basket (big or small) or donate a gift card or item for the silent auction and raffles, please contact Sara at sara.a.osullivan@gmail.com.
  • We are collecting trinkets, stickers, pencils, balloons, and small toys for the Carnival Prize Room.  
  • Gently used books for the new Book Walk game!
  • Full size candy bars & movie theater style candy for the Candy Bar Walk game
Parent Teacher Organization - Tuesday, 3/10 from 6:30-7:30
Please join us for our March PTO meeting in the school library.  We encourage all parents, guardians, and Horn staff to attend!  We will begin to discuss next year's activities and budget and would love to hear your feedback and ideas.  Please bring a quiet activity for any children attending.  Contact Laura (Lbroffitt@yahoo.com or 319-541-8862) with any questions or feedback.
