Winter in Iowa
It's hard to believe, but winter is coming soon!  Snow, ice, and temperatures that drop below freezing.  To keep your child safe from cold-weather injuries, they should come to school every day during the winter months with a warm coat, hat, and gloves or mittens.  Once the snow and ice arrives they should also have winter boots and snow pants. If your family needs assistance getting winter items for your Horn student and would like to see if we have items available in their size, please contact Megan Recker, the Student and Family Advocate.  You can email her at recker.megan@iowacityschools.org or call her at 319-688-1179.   Winter items are limited in number and we cannot guarantee availability of all items in all sizes.

International Night - Tuesday, October 22nd from 6:00-7:30
We are fortunate at Horn to have so many different countries represented in our school.  International Night is a wonderful event where families from our school come together to showcase their cultures.

Are you interested in sharing your culture with the Horn community?  If so, sign-up to host a table by returning the form sent home last Friday.  Table hosts bring pictures, items, toys, artifacts, and/or food native to their country and talks and shares with Horn families who visit to learn more.  We would love to have as many countries represented as possible, including the United States.  Individual families can host a table or friends can work together.

We'll the end the evening with a fashion show featuring students and families who would like to participate.  Contact Sara Cummins (cummins.sara@iowacityschools.org) with questions.

Box Tops Challenge
Thank you for contributing to our Box Tops Challenge.  We raised $133 for Horn.  Congratulations goes to Mrs. Abbott's 4th grade class for bringing in the most Box Tops.  They will celebrate with an extra recess.  To continue supporting Horn with your purchases, you can get the Box Tops app, select Ernest Horn Elementary School, and start scanning your receipts.

We're proud of the many ways the Parent Teacher Organization supports Horn School.  Without parent and staff support, we wouldn't be able to provide such great activities and successful fundraisers at Horn.  There are lots of opportunities, big and small, to give back to Horn.  Would you please consider how you can get involved this year?  Contact Laura Broffitt at Lbroffitt@yahoo.com or 319-541-8862 with any questions or sign-up to volunteer!
