September PTO Meeting
The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) would like to welcome all families to come to our first meeting of the year. PTO meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month in the Horn Media Center (aka the library) from 6:30-7:30pm. Future dates include Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, Dec. 4, Jan. 8, Feb. 5, Mar. 5, Apr. 2, and May 14.
At PTO meetings we will discuss updates about activities that are happening at school, events that are being sponsored by PTO, as well as hosting teachers from each grade level each month to let families know what the students are doing in that grade for the year. We also have teachers who lead the specials classes (e.g. art, PE, ELL, etc.) come as well.
Our first meeting will be on Tuesday, September 4th. We hope you will be able to attend!
Football Parking Volunteers Needed
We are still looking for one volunteer for football parking for this Saturday from 11:30-1:00pm. Please check out the sign up link below and help our school if you can! Thank you! Football Parking Sign Up
The Horn parking lots are opened on University of Iowa Football game days as a way to raise money for PTO sponsored events. Football parking is one of PTO's most successful and EASIEST fundraisers every year! Volunteers are needed to collect money and help guide cars into the parking spots. Every grade is assigned to a game, but please feel free to sign up for any date with openings. Contact Adela Mansilla at gonzalezandmansilla@gmail.com with any questions.
Translators Needed
We are currently in need of additional translators for Arabic, Chinese, French, Swahili, Japanese, and Spanish to help with translations of school announcements. If you are interested in helping, please contact Maysara Saeed (Maysara.saeeds@gmail.com).
Committee Coordinators Needed
The school year is off to a great start and PTO is planning for a great year. Would you consider volunteering to help on of our committee coordinators plan an event? Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents, get to know your child's peers and connect with Horn staff. No previous PTO involvement is necessary to volunteer. Upcoming Events
Box Top Contest will start today, Friday, August 31st and end on Friday, September 28th. Keep your eye out for Box tops to clip, along with information in your child's Friday Folder that is coming home today!
Track Club will begin on Wednesday, September 19th. Track club is open to all Horn students, and is a free family friendly event. Families (including younger siblings) are encouraged to attend. Track Club is a great way to be active, and to participate with friends. Track Club will meet from 6:00-7:00 on 9/19 & 9/26 and from 5:30-6:30 on 10/3 and 10/10. This will lead up to the Run for the Schools, which will take place on Sunday, October 14th. Parents must be present.
